most recent reads: a short review.

The month of July was a little crazy and I certainly have not had as much time for leisure reading, but I managed to finish one book I started a little while ago, and cruised through two unbelievably good books, so enjoy a little review of them. If you have read them I would LOVE to hear your thoughts.

MWF Seeking BFF by Rachel Bertsche >>

I was extremely excited to read this book, for the mere fact that we have just moved and as I get older I am finding it harder and harder to create friendships. The book was about a girl new to the Chicago area, who was about to embark on a journey to find a BFF. Throughout the novel she went on 52 friend dates, and she tried some interesting techniques to meet people. Would you ever rent a friend from the internet? Or go to a friend speed dating event? I am not sure I would ever have the guts to do it, but she did and she tells you her story through it all. I really enjoyed the book, but it was a bit of a slow read for me. It was one of those books I really had to be in the mood to read. I certainly wouldn’t give the book any awards, but it was an interesting and certainly entertaining read.

Clean by Amy Reed. >>

I was browsing around Barnes and Noble one day and stumbled across three books, all by Amy Reed a young adult writer. I had never heard of her, but I decided to buy two of the books because they sounded interesting.

The book is about a group of young adults who are currently in rehab trying to battle different drug addictions. The story goes through each of their journeys and how they ended up where they are. There are many twists and turns throughout the novel, the writer takes you inside their heads, inside their families, and you feel so connected with the characters that you root for them, and you don’t want the story to end. I read the book over the course of two days; I simply couldn’t put it down. Imagine being 15, 16, or 17 years old and in a rehab center trying to battle addiction with heroin or pills. Each of these kids are here for a reason, and something caused them to start taking drugs, the book unravels their pasts and untangles their stories to help them build better lives for themselves.

I would highly recommend the book, just know it does get a little vulgar, and I was a little surprised to find it in the young adult section.

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green >>

An AMAZING story. I can’t even express how madly in love I am in with this book, if you have not read it go buy it and start reading it. I read it over the course of one day, I seriously could not put it down. You will fall in love with Augustus and Hazel, their story is one of tragic sadness, but full of life, love, and happiness. The topics in the book are some that I am a little fearful of, but John Green did an incredible job with such tough topics. I could re-read the book 8 million more times and probably never think any less of it.
