Three tow trucks later and we have made it through the move.

Aaron and I made the move to Worcester on Saturday with the help of family and a close friend. Trust me we didn't want to leave the great city of Boston, but plans change and accommodations had to be made. Aaron goes to graduate school in Boston, and I will be going to graduate school in Springfield, so Worcester was the middle point for us. Aaron can still get to school via the train, and I will have about an hour or so drive to and from school every day. We are not super excited about our new location or the less than ideal travel to school, but we LOVE our new apartment. It's spacious, clean, new, and we love it.

Now for our disastrous moving story. So we woke up Saturday morning, not very well rested since we decided to go out the night before, but we managed to make our way to get coffee and finish packing up the last few things. We were expecting the weather to be hot, but certainly not as muggy as it was. The U-Haul arrived around 9:30, I was inside packing and when no one came knocking on our door, I started getting confused. My mom had just called and said they were pulling up...hence my confusion. I sent Aaron and our friend outside to check it out, and when they didn't come back right away I wandered my way outside. Turns out our 26 foot U-Haul was stuck on a hill next to our apartment, blocking in another U-Haul that was at the top. The hill was too steep for the truck to make it up, and there was now one back wheel not touching the ground, and the back part of the truck was digging into the cement. Sure why not have something go wrong right off the bat? Some nice people tried to help us figure out a plan, the plan consisted of breaking a piece of a coffee table that was in the dump, and placing it under the wheel to try and get some traction for the wheel and get it moving. Well the coffee table shot out the back and the wheel continued to spin in mid-air. We decided after a half hour of plans that did not work, to call U-Haul. The man that answered the phone was clueless to what was going on. We filled him in on the details, and he VERY slowly tried to find us a towing company that would be able to help. We confirmed our location with him a few times, but even still he was looking for a street that did not exist, so he was not finding any towing companies close to us. He also told us that it was probably going to cost around $500.00 to get the truck unstuck, ummm HELLO, the whole moving thing is expensive enough. We ended up telling him we would find our own tow company because he was not being helpful. I googled nearby places on my phone and called the first number that popped up. A nice guy answered and sent a tow truck within minutes, he wasn't sure they would be able to help us, but was willing to come take a look. The first guy came and immediately called for another guy to help him. I was hoping between the two tow trucks they would be able to help. We had to block cars from turning down the road, so I acted as a traffic cop and stopped cars from turning down one way, while Aaron worked the other end of the street sending cars away. We live on a pretty busy road with a busy intersection, I really thought I was going to get hit by a car, but I can officially say I fulfilled my dream of directing traffic, I really never had the dream, but hey I can say I did. About 20 or so minutes later, the U-Haul made it's way off the hill and was gently pulled up next to our apartment with all four wheels touching the ground!

We started loading everything into the truck, and about half way through my phone rings. I decided not to answer it because we were already behind schedule and I just wanted to be done loading the truck. I took a water break and decided to listen to the voicemail, well it was our new leasing agent. She was calling to inform me that she would be leaving the office before 2 today because it was holiday weekend. I was SO mad because I confirmed that she would in fact be there until 2 so we could sign our lease and get our new keys. This was around 11, so I grabbed Aaron and made him call her back and tell her we were going as fast as we can and she had better not leave. She basically told us we better get there soon or we were out of luck. Aaron and I ended up having to take my car and go to Worcester on our own, while our amazing helpers loaded the rest of the truck. We sped there in record time and pulled into the closest parking lot we could find. When we got inside I was ready to scream, and I don't scream, but I was so livid that she just decided she wanted to leave early and leave us in the dust that I was ready to show my anger. When we walked in she was so sweet, and apologized to us saying she hopes she didn't rush us. Seriously, lady? Well my anger subsided and I put on my happy face. She gave us our keys, showed us around, and left us to our own devices, we were there for maybe a total of 25 minutes.

We decided to walk back out to the car, and call everyone to see how much longer they would be. Well, we got to where my car should have been and there was an empty space. The first thing that crossed my mind was "oh my gosh my car was stolen!" This is where my hate for Worcester started. But then we saw a small sign that said something about being a tow zone. We immediately called the number, and they had no idea, but they gave us a number of a tow company who would have been the ones to do it. So we called the company and yep, they had my car! The guy told us we could come pick it up, but that it would be $150 cash for it. Seriously. I didn't think the day could have gotten worse, guess I was wrong. We started walking towards the tow company, but it was a little far and luckily our friend who was helping us move was just about here and picked us up. We went inside the tow company to pay, where he told us that the lot we parked in has a small window up top in the building where the owner sits and immediately calls the tow company if he sees people walking away from the convenient store and leaving their car, he then told us the driver that towed our car was angry with us because apparently we parked our car by a mess of puke, which he stepped in and so he was charging us an extra $20. The guy at the desk was nice though and only charged us the $130, still way more then two poor graduate students wanted to pay. We grabbed my car and headed back to wait for my mom and the U-Haul.

The rest of the afternoon went pretty smoothly, I mean nothing else could have made the day worse. We unloaded the truck, grabbed some sandwiches from subway, said our goodbyes and thank you's, and Aaron and I passed out on the couch.

Congratulations if you made it through this whole post! I just thought sharing a story of nothing going right would be fun, I mean I pretty much only share the good on my blog, and I want to be more open with my readers, so here is a view into my not-so-perfect-life.

Enjoy a few crappy pictures from my phone of our new place! Better pictures to come soon, I promise!

Have you had a move go terribly wrong? I would sure love to hear about it!

words of wisdom

Happy Wednesday! I hope this week is treating you well. When I blew out my candles a few days ago this is the thought that was in my mind. It's so true! We can always be better versions of ourselves, I am very far from the person I once was and I still have so much growing and changing to do, but it's not a bad thing it's exciting, don't you think?

over the weekend...

I love long weekends, especially when my birthday falls on one. I am beyond exhausted but it was a pretty successful weekend.

Friday.
I decided I wanted nothing to do with cooking dinner, so we went to Chipotle with our buy one get one free coupon and enjoyed some chicken burritos! After dinner we decided to finish packing the rest or the apartment, followed by relaxing on the couch. We decided we wanted not to waste our last full night in the city, so we walked to our favorite fro-yo place and bookstore. Then we went out with friends for some drinks and dancing at the Joshua Tree. It was a perfect night before moving in the morning.

Saturday.
Can you say disaster? Ever move and have every possible thing that could go wrong, go wrong? Let me start by saying our 26' u-haul got very stuck. Stay tuned for the moving fiasco post later. We spent all day Saturday loading the u-haul, unloading the u-haul, unpacking boxes, and melting to death in the heat through it all. We were so lucky to have family and friends helping us. Aaron and I were excited to be in our new place, its gorgeous, and we love it. Plus, we have an incredible view from the 19th floor over looking our new city of Worcester. Trust me I am a Boston lover, Worcester doesn't even compare, but we will make the best of it and it will be our new home. We ventured out Saturday night to the grocery store because we were starving, and we got used to the area a bit. Then we plopped on the couch and ended the night by watching Big Bang Theory.

Sunday.
It was my birthday so we made a deal to not spend the entire day unpacking. We spent the morning scoping out places we might want to find in the area. We then decided to take a drive to a nearby town, we found an awesome antique store and of course had to stop so we spent a ton of time looking at awesome antiques (quite pricey, but fun nonetheless), then we found a great outdoor shopping center with some factory stores (score!). We also found a Target which pretty much made my day. We enjoyed lunch and dessert at UNO's, followed by some shopping at Banana Republic. Aaron bought me the cutest dress for my birthday, he even picked it out in the store, I love love love it! We then went to Barnes and Noble and Aaron let me pick out a bargain book, which was awesome because we have been on a book buying ban until we each read 30 of the ones we already have! I picked out Heart of the Matter, anyone read it? I hope it's good! After we were done exploring the area we headed home to unpack a little. After getting rid of some boxes and feeling less overwhelmed we headed out to the grocery store and grabbed ingredients to make taco's. Aaron whipped up some taco's while I unpacked more things, and we settled on the couch for the night with some taco's and Big Bang Theory on the TV. We also enjoyed a delicious cake, with bright pink frosting! Aaron arranged the candles in the form of the number 23, and I made the same wish I have been making for years. Hopefully it keeps coming true.
Monday.
Today we spent the morning unpacking a few more boxes, there are only three left to unpack and just a bunch of pictures that I need to find homes for! We are loving the new place and are starting to find a home for everything. My dad came to visit in the afternoon and took us out to lunch. We went to UNO's and I had some delicious pizza skins. If you haven't tried theirs, go now and do it. Seriously. So good. He then brought us back to our apartment in Boston. So for the next three nights we are sleeping on an air mattress and spending our time cleaning and gathering the last few things. We have to be out on the 31st, so that's when we will head back to Worcester.

How was your long weekend? Do anything fun?!

24 before 24

Today I celebrate my 23rd birthday! I have seen these kinds of lists all over, and have never tried to tackle one because let me be honest, I'm afraid to fail. Like seriously, I think it's one of my biggest fears. I would feel like I not only would let myself down if I didn't tackle everything on this list, but also you guys. I decided however that by sharing some of my goals I have for myself with YOU, you will hold me accountable and not just let me be lazy...right?  SO, here are the 24 things I hope to do or try to do before I turn 24. I will post updates about how I am doing and hopefully will feel very fulfilled come my 24th birthday.

Happy Sunday. Go eat some cake and have a drink in my honor! And because I don't thank my readers nearly enough. Thank you for coming to read my blog and leaving me sweet little comments, I truly love all of you!

Friday Favorites

It's Friday! You all know what that means, you get a little taste of things I am loving this week.

favorite quote
favorite style: Guys, I am seriously loving maxi skirts. Oh and stripes? Can never get enough of those.
favorite bathroom: Love the subtle stripes, and the birds, yep, love it.
favorite hair: Why does every hair idea on Pinterest look SO good? But then I try it and bam I look like a serious mess. Regardless this seems thrown together, but looks lovely.
favorite memory: I miss dance. I know I say this in other posts, but seriously my heart has a little hole in it.
favorite video: I love sloths, I find them incredible adorable. Aaron thinks they are terribly ugly, maybe I have weird tastes.

Here are a few of my favorite reads this week...
This article about lessons from our heroines.
This post from Ashley over at the Shine project. I am not graduating, but it seriously hit home with me.
A little post about finances, I love this whole site.
I can't get enough of this song lately. Also the video is Jelly Beans, does it get any better?
This Ted teen talk was lovely, I think I have listened to it a few times now. Who isn't trying to figure it out still?

What did you love this week? Any good finds? Can we come to an agreement on how cute sloths are? Or an agreement on how Pinterest has the best hair ideas, but are impossible for the average joe to do?

Birthday Wish List

Guys, I'm turning 23 on Sunday! Normally I am excited about my birthday, but it just kind of feels lost in the bustle and hustle of everything we have going on right now. We are moving into a new apartment on Saturday and so our lives have been a chaotic mess of packing and getting ready to move. Who knew moving involved so much? I love to shop, but living on an extremely tight budget really doesn't allow much luxury, and I am totally fine by that, but I figured in the spirit of my birthday some online wish list making would be fun.

If I could pick the best present in the whole world it would be this guy...
The canon EOS T3i 18mp camera. Seriously just looking at it makes my heart flutter. I'm going crazy without having a working camera.
Now on a slightly smaller scale...

Love this Erin Condren iPhone case, with my name on the bottom of course.
Also, I am in need of a new planner and Erin Condren releases the new one in mid-June!
Her planners are kind of amazing...just watch the video for last years planner and tell me you don't want one.

I have also been holding myself back on purchasing these shoes, I just can't fork out that kind of cash, but oh how I wish they were on my feet

I have been scouring Etsy shops too, and have fallen so in love with so many things, but I am dying for one of these prints.
- A custom one of me and Aaron from Though Very Humble.
- This print from Rosie Music, I also love this one!

Making a wish list can be fun, it also motivates me to save my pennies! That way when I can afford it, its really fulfilling knowing how hard I had to work for it!

Happy Thursday!

Book Review: Balancing Acts

Debut author Zoe Fishman wrote Balancing Acts, a heartfelt book that displays the lives of four very different, but also very similar women. I found the book on the bargain table at our local bookstore and it had a yoga mat on the cover- I was hooked by the cover, I won't lie.
Then when I got home I immediately went to Good Reads to see the ratings for the book, they were NOT very good. Some people said nice things, but most of the ones I read were terrible, my bubble of happiness was bursts so the book sat on my bookshelf collecting dust for a bit. As school came to an end I decided I needed a light and uplifting read so I gave the book a shot. I IMMEDIATELY fell in love with all four characters and their stories.
Bess writes tabloids and is in a long distance relationship, trying to figure out how to be the writer she always wanted (not in tabloids), as well as trying to figure out how to make distance work.
Sabine is single and trying to find love. She is stuck at a job that she hates and had hopes of moving up the ladder a while ago, but sometimes life gets in the way. She is on a journey to find romance and fulfillment in life.
Charlie is single and hung-up on her past, desperately trying to figure out how to be happy again. She left behind a comfortable life to open a yoga studio and is working to find balance and happiness again.
Naomi is a single mom working hard to raise her son, and finding her passion in life. She faces some troubling health issues and does her best to stay strong, but as you read you realize everybody has their breaking point.
Four women all looking for fulfillment in life and trying their best to balance the craziness of life, they are long lost friends reunited by a 10 year school reunion, they face some highs and lows together, and the book lets you follow them on their journey to happiness. Yoga opens all of them to a new world and connects them to each other in ways they never expected.
Two of my favorite things about the book were first that the women went to Boston University and they mentioned Commonwealth Ave which is basically where I live so it was pretty cool to read it in the book. The second thing I loved about the book was the flow of the writing. I felt like I was just talking to friends, the language was casual and laid back, which some people might not enjoy, but I loved the writing and flow!
I would highly suggest the book to anyone looking for a heartwarming and uplifting, light read.

Have you read anything good lately? I am always looking for new suggestions!

over the weekend we...

Friday...
After being in NH all week to get done some wedding tasks, we decided to relax for the day. We spent the morning getting some chores done around the apartment, followed by an afternoon of watching FRIENDS (were on season 7!)  and ended the night with a short walk, and a little reading before bed.

Saturday...
Every year we look forward to the free concert known as Earth Fest, at the hatch shell in Boston. We were not able to go last year because we were graduating, but we certainly made it a point to go this year. The lineup was SO good. There was one local band followed by Eve 6, Switchfoot, The Spin Doctors, and Third Eye Blind. The entire concert is free to the public and is primarily sponsored by Whole Foods and other organic and green companies! Not only do they always have amazing bands, but there are booths and tables that you are able to walk around to and get free samples of foods and other goodies. We scored a bunch of free samples from seventh generation cleaning products, cilantro seeds to grow from Chipotle, reusable grocery bags from Natures Path, samples of Vitamin Water, and so many other free items. Totally worth checking out if you are in and around the Boston area next year. The weather was gorgeous to be outside in, and my shoulders are bright red and certainly feeling all the sun I got yesterday!
By the time the concert was over we were hungry and wanted to get out of the sun, so we headed to grab some dinner with friends at the cheesecake factory. We ended the night by reading on the couch (I was excited to start a new book, The Five Love Languages), perfect ending to a perfect day.

Sunday...
We woke up with the urge to walk into Coolidge Corner, it also helped that our fridge was pretty bare so a trip to Trader Joe's was pretty necessary. We enjoyed the nice walk and ended up stopping by the bookstore, grabbing some coffee at Starbucks, and getting a few groceries. Moving day is getting closer and closer, so we decided that we had better start packing. We packed a lot of our living room, and started in the bedroom. I finally decided to call it quits around 6 because my back was sore and the couch was calling my name. We spent the rest of the evening curled up on the couch watching TV and relaxing.

What did you do this weekend? Start reading anything new or enjoy the sunny weather?

It has been a busy week, which normally I am not a fan of, but when the tasks are fun that make the week busy I am okay by it.

This week we...
- Finalized our wedding cake
- Picked out Tuxedo's for the guys
- Finalized our flowers
- Enjoyed the first soft serve twist of the summer season
- Made delicious Hawaiian vacation drinks
- Enjoyed the company of a friend while we talked about the future
- Spent time with our families
- Enjoyed delicious chocolate cake from the 99
- Bought some small decorations for the wedding
- Finished buying our centerpieces
- Got a phone call saying my wedding dress is ready!
- Got the final design finished for our invitations
- Ate more donuts than we probably should have
- Attempted making our own juice, and realized how much we dislike Kale.

Being without a camera lately is killing me, my iPhone just doesn't fulfill my photography needs. I managed to snap a few photos this week, sorry for their lack of quality!

May 16, 2012

someday is now.

I have been too busy to sit down and write good blog posts, we are finalizing some of the last big tasks on our wedding to do list, and it is consuming most of my time. I promise on Friday I will have a good post waiting for you, so stay tuned. For now enjoy these words...

“It’s the oldest story in the world. One day you’re 17 and planning for someday. And then quietly and without you ever really noticing, someday is today. And then someday is yesterday. And this is your life.”
–Nathan Scott

If there is one thing I have realized lately it's that life passes too fast, and you don't realize that each and every moment is precious whether it's good or bad, doesn't matter...all that matters is you realize you only get one life to live, this is it, so do good and chase your dreams.

Life Lately...

Normally this is where I recap the weekend, but I wanted to share a little more than the weekend.

I finished finals on Wednesday (cue loud cheers and ear to ear grins), which means I am done my pre-recquisites and start graduate school for occupational therapy in August!

Our life lately has looked liked this...

We tried a new coffee place, not my favorite but decent. Then we decided to walk the Freedom Trail from start to finish...

My reading recently, I certainly am glad they put out a special edition, I have missed them.
A little well deserved shopping now that finals are over.

My dad and new puppy Roy came to visit Thursday night!
Ventured home for mothers day and have been spending quality time with my pup Zo!
Lunch with a friend after picking out tuxedos for the wedding, have you tried Five Guys? So good.
Spent mothers day with my amazing, talented, wonderful mother. We started planting her garden! I love quality mother daughter time, it was the PERFECT day.
Finished the weekend off by playing soccer with Zoey...

Hope everyone had an amazing weekend and got to spend it with those you love!

Rain Rain Go Away.

Happy Wednesday! Today I tackle my last final. It is the last time I will have to step foot into this particular school, I have officially finished my pre-requisites and am on my way to becoming a certified occupational therapist! Lots of changes for A and I coming up, but we are ready for our next adventure. To all my Boston readers, are you as sick of the dreary weather as I am!? I am ready for some sunshine. Although, I will admit that with the gloomy weather and rain, it has made studying for finals a bit easier since I haven't been tempted by the sun to be outside!

I hope everyone is having a good week. Here are some rather appropriate words of wisdom for today...

May 7, 2012

Over the Weekend We...

Friday.
I started the day by meeting a good friend for coffee, and returning a purchase at H&M, and of course walking in the store and not being able to leave without purchasing something. It was the end of Aaron's finals so you can bet he was tired, and lately I am always tired so it was the perfect night to relax and do absolutely nothing. We played some scrabble, ordered takeout, and watched a lot of FRIENDS (we are working out way through all 10 seasons right now). We got into bed and read, but for some reason my brain thought it would be a great idea to start thinking about anything and everything. Rather than keep Aaron up I decided to get up and I ended up watching TV and catching up on some blogs until very early in the morning!

Saturday.
Saturday we had plans with Aaron's family to meet them in Newburyport to celebrate his moms birthday. We walked around the town for a bit, and enjoyed the beautiful water. We drove to the hotel Aaron and I will be staying at the night of our wedding, the view is breathtaking and everything is blue! (It's called the Blue Inn). We had dinner reservations at a restaurant by the water, and they were supposed to put us near a TV for the Kentucky Derby,  but we got there with no TV in site. We decided to stream it live on my fancy iPhone, and we wrote down our picks for winner, just for fun. Guys, I won! I picked. I'll Have Another...Aaron's family kept saying how lucky I am because I have a tendency to do really well in his family pools/bets. After dinner was over, we went and ate cake and did presents at a picnic table by the water, it was a little chilly, but well worth it, the moon was BEAUTIFUL, as well as the water! When we got home Aaron and I decided we were exhausted from the days events so we popped in a movie and fell asleep.

Sunday.
We decided we were going to the SoWa open market in South Boston, it was opening day for their spring/summer market. It was really nice out so it seemed like the perfect day to go, plus this was out last full weekend in Boston so we were detrained to make the best of it. We walked around all the booths and looked at all the talented artists. We decided to get lunch at The Dining Car, I had an incredible grilled chicken sandwich with avocado and English cucumbers. We didn't want to spend too much so we didn't buy any jewelry or art (although I could have left with a lot!), but we bought two brownies from Yummy Mummy, and we split them when we got home! They were incredible. We spent the rest of the afternoon playing cards, relaxing, and finishing the movie we fell asleep during.

Now its finals time for me so I am back at the grind until Wednesday. Then it homeward bound to run around and wrap up some much needed wedding plans!

What did you do this weekend?
